Welcome to Tottenville

Tottenville is Staten Island's southernmost neighborhood, covering about 1.7 square miles. Originally called Bentley Manor, it was named by Captain Christopher Billop, one of its first settlers, after his ship, the Bentley. In 1869, it was renamed Tottenville, likely in honor of the Totten family, who were prominent in the area. Their legacy is still seen on tombstones at Bethel Methodist Church on Amboy Road, one of the neighborhood's earliest churches. With its rich history and peaceful setting, Tottenville offers a unique mix of Staten Island's past and present, making it a distinctive community.
