Welcome to Fort Hamilton

The southern half of the neighborhood, stretching from 86th to 101st Streets and from New York Bay to Seventh Avenue and the Fort Hamilton Army Base, is sometimes referred to as the separate neighborhood of Fort Hamilton. However, some long-time residents dispute this distinction. Fort Hamilton grew around the military installation and briefly served as a vacation destination, acting as a sister village to Yellow Hook, the original name of Bay Ridge to the north. Over time, Fort Hamilton has remained closely tied to Bay Ridge but retains a distinct identity shaped by its military history and proximity to the bay.
